Specialist paint effects and decorative paint finishes are all about subtlety and fine application. They don't have to dominate, becoming part of a whole scheme. If applied with thought, paint effects can be timeless, and  tend not to date like patterned papers, which can have a limited life expectancy. Specialist paint effects also individualise your home or workplace, making it unique to you.

Practically speaking, decorative paint effects are much more durable than wallpaper. The use of water and oil based varnishes renders them wipeable, and some specialist paint effects can be repaired long after the original work was carried out. If you have painted a room in a colour which you like, but in reality is too dark (a common problem!) there are also solutions for that, which do not involve repainting!
