This work can range from decorative paint effects in one room to a whole house or hotel, or even one item of furniture. Vanessa is often asked to paint 'new pine' furniture, making it more acceptable to contemporary tastes. She may use Provençal French style, a wood wash or a more traditional paint effect such as stippling.

Historical Restoration
Vanessa tells us about her involvement with restoration.
"In early 1997, I started designing and decorating interiors for the extensive renovation of Uphill Manor, a Victorian Gothic country house hotel in North Somerset,. The project involved the restoration and renovation of stencilling and gilding circa 1855, by the prestigious interior designer/decorator John Gregory Crace, an associate of A W N Pugin. New Properties
One characteristic of the new building development that we have seen throughout the UK is that contemporary architecture particularly lends itself to having neutral tones and ‘textured’ walls created with paint. These specialist paint finishes break up vast areas of wall and ceiling, enhancing the space as a whole, complementing wood, metal, glass and stone.

As a qualified teacher, Vanessa has run popular specialist paint effects courses since 1990 at venues in the West Country. These include the University of Bath, Dillington House, and Urchfont Manor College. Several courses were run at a C14 century house, where her stencilling and paint effects were used.
